I am Pitzi and a bee enthusiast!
On this website I want to share my knowledge and excitement for those cute pollinators.
May 20th marks World Bee Day. On that day in 2023 I released my first magazine about bees on a browser based dress up plattform. In 2024 I befriended sona, a fellow bee enthusiast. We worked together on the issues for 2024 and 2025 and became really good friends in that time.
Anton Janša was born on May 20th 1734*¹. He was an apiarist and a painter.
He studied and defined the roles of the bees, invented a new beehive design, worked as bee keeper for the Empress Maria Theresa and published two books. Upon Janšas death, Maria Theresa declared, that beekeeping school teachers are only allowed to teach according to Janša.
The Beekeepers Association of Slovenia, supported by the Goverment of Slovenia suggested to mark the World Bee Day in honor of Anton Janša and to honor his legacy, as he had major impact on modern apiculture.
*1 Upon some further research, I found some sources that say that the 20th May is only assumed to be his birthday. Apparently his actual birthday is not know, but the date of his baptism was documented, which was May 20th.
In this section I will write about the western honey bee.
